Paul warns that a mindset governed by the flesh—focused on satisfying sinful desires and living apart from God—leads to spiritual death and eternal separation from God. This 'death' encompasses both present spiritual deadness and future judgment. In contrast, those whose minds are controlled by the Holy Spirit think and desire according to God's will. This spiritual mindset results from the Spirit's indwelling presence in believers, transforming their thoughts and priorities. The Spirit-controlled mind produces both eternal life and inner peace—a present experience of God's shalom that transcends circumstances. This peace flows from reconciliation with God and alignment with His purposes.
