Romans 8:14

King James Bible

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."

Commentary

Paul describes a present, ongoing guidance where the Holy Spirit actively directs believers' lives and decisions. This leadership is not passive but involves the Spirit's active influence in moral choices, spiritual understanding, and daily living. Those under the Spirit's leadership are identified as God's children—a privileged status marking them as heirs and family members rather than mere servants. In Roman culture, sonship carried legal rights and intimate relationship, emphasizing both identity and inheritance in God's kingdom.
