Psalms 91:14

King James Bible

"Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name."

Commentary

God speaks directly, promising rescue to those who deliberately choose to love Him. The Hebrew term for 'set his love' implies a deep attachment or clinging devotion, establishing divine deliverance as a response to genuine affection rather than mere religious duty. Beyond mere rescue, God promises elevation to a secure, exalted position—imagery suggesting both physical safety and spiritual honor. This phrase indicates protection through promotion above danger's reach. Knowing God's name in Hebrew thought means understanding His character and entering into relationship with Him. This personal knowledge becomes the second basis for divine protection, emphasizing intimacy over mere intellectual awareness.
