Psalms 82:7

King James Bible

"But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes."

Commentary

Despite their exalted position as judges or rulers (addressed as 'gods' in verse 6), they will face mortality just like common people. This pronouncement strips away any illusion of divine immunity, emphasizing that unjust leaders are subject to the same human frailty and divine judgment as everyone else. The parallel intensifies by referencing the violent downfall of earthly princes, who often met sudden ends through war or assassination. In the ancient Near East, the fall of princes was a common occurrence, making this a vivid warning that corrupt rulers will be deposed and judged as decisively as any overthrown monarch.
