Matthew 5:9

King James Bible

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

Commentary

Jesus pronounces divine favor on those who actively work to reconcile conflicts and restore harmony between people. In the Roman-occupied Jewish context, this challenged both violent revolutionaries and passive withdrawal, advocating instead for constructive bridge-building. Peacemakers reflect God's own character, as He reconciles humanity to Himself and desires unity among people. This promise of being recognized as God's children indicates both present spiritual reality and future vindication when God's kingdom fully comes.
