Matthew 25:2

King James Bible

"And five of them were wise, and five were foolish."

Commentary

In Jesus' parable of the ten virgins, wisdom is characterized by preparedness for the bridegroom's arrival. The wise virgins brought extra oil for their lamps, demonstrating foresight and readiness for an uncertain timing—a metaphor for spiritual vigilance. The foolish virgins failed to prepare adequately, bringing lamps but no reserve oil. Their folly represents spiritual complacency and presumption, assuming they had enough without considering the possibility of delay in the bridegroom's coming.
