Luke 20:18

King James Bible

"Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder."

Commentary

Jesus references Isaiah 8:14-15, depicting himself as the cornerstone that causes division—those who stumble over him in unbelief will be shattered. This metaphor suggests that encountering Christ demands a response, and rejection leads to spiritual brokenness through one's own choice. Drawing from Daniel 2:34-35 about the kingdom-crushing stone, this intensifies the warning to describe active divine judgment. The shift from 'falling upon' to 'being fallen upon' contrasts self-inflicted harm through rejection with the complete destruction that comes when Christ returns as judge.
