King James Bible
"He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid."
Jesus concludes the parable of the wicked tenants by declaring the vineyard owner will execute judgment on the murderous tenants. This represents God's judgment on Israel's religious leaders who rejected and would kill His Son, marking a decisive divine intervention against covenant unfaithfulness. The vineyard (representing God's kingdom privileges) will be transferred to new tenants who will produce its fruits. This prophesies the expansion of God's covenant community beyond ethnic Israel to include Gentiles, a radical shift in salvation history. The listeners' horrified response reveals they understood the parable's implications—their own rejection and replacement. Their emphatic denial (Greek: μὴ γένοιτο) ironically confirms their guilt, as they resist the very judgment their actions warrant.
