King James Bible
"Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him."
The vineyard owner deliberates after his servants have been rejected and mistreated by the tenants. This rhetorical question reveals both the owner's patience and his determination to receive what is rightfully his from the vineyard. The owner makes a climactic decision to send his heir, expressing both supreme authority and deep affection ('beloved'). In Jesus' parable, this represents God sending His Son after the prophets were rejected, marking the ultimate divine overture to Israel. The owner hopes the tenants will show proper respect to his son that they denied the servants. This expectation highlights both the reasonableness of honoring the heir and the tragic irony, as Jesus' audience would soon reject and kill the Son of God.
