Luke 12:3

King James Bible

"Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops."

Commentary

Jesus warns that words spoken in secrecy will be exposed publicly, emphasizing God's omniscience and ultimate judgment. The darkness-to-light imagery reflects a reversal where hidden things become fully visible, connecting to his previous warning about religious hypocrisy. Private whispers in inner rooms will be announced from flat rooftops—the most public spaces in ancient Jewish towns. This parallelism intensifies the first warning, stressing that no secret communication escapes divine accountability and all will be revealed.
