Luke 12:29

King James Bible

"And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind."

Commentary

Jesus commands his disciples to stop anxiously pursuing basic necessities like food and drink. This echoes his earlier teaching about God's provision and challenges the common human preoccupation with material security that can overshadow spiritual priorities. The Greek term here suggests being suspended in midair or tossed about—a state of anxious uncertainty. Jesus diagnoses worry as a form of spiritual instability that reveals insufficient trust in God's faithfulness and care.
