Luke 12:10

King James Bible

"And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven."

Commentary

Speaking against the Son of man refers to rejecting or insulting Jesus in his human form, when his divine glory was veiled. This occurred frequently during his earthly ministry when people misunderstood his identity and mission. Such rejection of Christ's humanity is pardonable because it stems from ignorance or misunderstanding rather than willful spiritual rebellion. God's grace extends to those who fail to recognize Jesus before receiving fuller revelation. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit involves persistently attributing God's work to evil, thereby rejecting the very means of conviction and repentance. This represents a hardened heart that refuses divine truth despite clear spiritual evidence, making forgiveness impossible because repentance itself is rejected.
