Luke 1:53

King James Bible

"He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away."

Commentary

Mary declares God's preferential care for the materially and spiritually destitute, who receive abundance from His hand. This echoes the Old Testament theme of God as defender of the poor, anticipating Jesus' ministry to society's margins. Those self-sufficient in wealth or status depart with nothing, illustrating the great reversal central to God's kingdom. The contrast emphasizes that divine blessing flows to those who recognize their need, not to those who trust in earthly resources.
