Luke 1:41

King James Bible

"And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:"

Commentary

This sets the scene for a divinely orchestrated meeting between two pregnant women—Mary carrying Jesus and Elisabeth carrying John the Baptist. The mere sound of Mary's greeting triggers a supernatural response, emphasizing the significance of Jesus even before his birth. John the Baptist, still unborn, recognizes and responds to the presence of the unborn Messiah with joy. This leap fulfills the angel's prophecy that John would be filled with the Holy Spirit from the womb and echoes Old Testament accounts of prenatal awareness. The Spirit's immediate filling enables Elisabeth to prophetically understand what her baby's movement means. This divine empowerment marks the beginning of her prophetic utterance about Mary and Jesus, demonstrating how the Spirit reveals hidden spiritual realities.
