King James Bible
"When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?"
Jesus perceives his disciples' grumbling without being told, demonstrating his divine awareness of their inner thoughts. This follows his difficult teaching about being the bread of life and eating his flesh, which caused many to struggle with its meaning. Jesus directly confronts their discomfort with a pointed question that uses the Greek word 'skandalizo' (to cause to stumble). Rather than softening his message, he challenges them to examine why his words create such offense, preparing to reveal even harder truths about his ascension.
