John 6:46

King James Bible

"Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father."

Commentary

Jesus clarifies that no human has directly seen God the Father with physical eyes, affirming the Old Testament teaching of God's invisibility (Exodus 33:20). This statement guards against misunderstanding his previous words about coming from the Father, emphasizing the unique nature of divine revelation. The exception refers to Jesus himself, who originates from God and possesses a unique relationship with the Father. This phrase underscores Christ's divine origin and exclusive position as the one who has existed in the Father's presence from eternity. Jesus claims direct, intimate knowledge of the Father that goes beyond prophetic visions or theophanies. This seeing implies complete understanding and perfect revelation, positioning Jesus as the sole mediator who can fully reveal God to humanity.
