John 6:44

King James Bible

"No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day."

Commentary

Jesus declares human inability to approach him through self-effort alone, emphasizing that salvation requires divine initiative. The Greek word for 'draw' (helkō) suggests a powerful attraction rather than coercion, indicating God's sovereign grace in bringing people to Christ while maintaining their genuine response. Jesus guarantees the resurrection of everyone the Father draws to him, connecting present salvation with future glorification. This promise appears four times in John 6, emphasizing the security of those who come to Christ and the certainty of their eternal destiny.
