John 6:36

King James Bible

"But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not."

Commentary

Jesus references a previous statement to the same audience, likely verse 26 where He exposed their materialistic motives. This phrase establishes continuity in His confrontation of their unbelief despite witnessing His miracles. The crowd had physically witnessed Jesus and His miraculous feeding of the 5,000. "Also" suggests they join others who have seen yet rejected Him, emphasizing that mere physical sight of Christ doesn't guarantee faith. Despite eyewitness evidence, they refuse to trust Jesus as the Bread of Life. This tragic irony—seeing the Messiah yet remaining in unbelief—illustrates that faith requires more than physical observation; it demands spiritual perception.
