John 14:19

King James Bible

"Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also."

Commentary

Jesus refers to his imminent crucifixion and departure from public view, after which the unbelieving world will no longer perceive him physically. This marks a transition where his earthly ministry ends and his presence becomes accessible only to those with spiritual sight. In contrast to the world, the disciples will continue to perceive Jesus through spiritual eyes after his resurrection and through the Holy Spirit. This seeing transcends physical sight, pointing to an ongoing relationship of faith that survives his bodily absence. Jesus grounds the disciples' future life in his own eternal existence—his resurrection guarantees theirs. This promise extends beyond physical survival to encompass spiritual vitality now and eternal life hereafter, establishing the inseparable connection between Christ's life and that of his followers.
