John 13:32

King James Bible

"If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him."

Commentary

Jesus speaks of the Father being glorified through the Son's obedience, particularly in the imminent crucifixion. The conditional "if" is rhetorical certainty, as Jesus has already committed to this path of suffering that will display God's love and justice. The Father will reciprocate by glorifying Jesus within His own divine nature and presence. This points to Christ's exaltation and return to the Father's right hand, where the Son shares fully in divine glory. The glorification will happen immediately—not delayed to some distant future. In John's Gospel, the crucifixion itself begins this glorification process, as the cross becomes the throne where Christ's divine identity is revealed.
