John 10:7

King James Bible

"Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep."

Commentary

Jesus reiterates his teaching to the Pharisees, who had not understood his previous sheep metaphor. The repetition signals the importance of what follows and responds to their spiritual blindness shown in the preceding verses. This double "amen" formula appears frequently in John's Gospel to mark solemn pronouncements of divine truth. Jesus uses this emphatic introduction to assert his authority and underscore the critical nature of his self-revelation. Jesus identifies himself as the exclusive entrance to the sheepfold—the means of salvation and access to God. In ancient Palestinian sheepfolds, the shepherd often lay across the opening at night, literally becoming the door that both protected the sheep and controlled all passage.
