John 10:32

King James Bible

"Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?"

Commentary

This response follows the Jews' attempt to stone Jesus for blasphemy after he claimed unity with the Father. Jesus engages them directly rather than fleeing, demonstrating both courage and a desire to reason with his accusers. Jesus points to his miraculous healings and acts of compassion as evidence of divine origin. By attributing these works to the Father, he reinforces his claim of divine authority while highlighting the inherent goodness of his ministry. This rhetorical question exposes the irrationality of their violent response to acts of mercy. Jesus forces them to confront the contradiction between condemning good works while claiming to defend God's honor, revealing their true motive stems from rejecting his identity rather than his deeds.
