John 10:26

King James Bible

"But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you."

Commentary

Jesus directly confronts the unbelief of his Jewish opponents who demanded more signs despite witnessing his miracles. Their rejection is not due to insufficient evidence but stems from a deeper spiritual condition. Jesus explains unbelief as a matter of spiritual identity—those who reject him do not belong to his flock. This metaphor builds on his earlier teaching as the Good Shepherd, where his sheep recognize his voice and follow him. Jesus references his previous teaching about the shepherd-sheep relationship, emphasizing consistency in his message. This reminder underscores that their unbelief fulfills what he already revealed about who truly belongs to him.
