John 10:2

King James Bible

"But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep."

Commentary

Jesus contrasts legitimate entry with the thief who climbs over the wall (v.1), emphasizing proper authority and recognition. In ancient sheepfolds, the door was the only authorized entrance, watched by a gatekeeper who knew genuine shepherds. The one using proper entrance proves his authentic relationship and rightful claim to the flock. This identifies Jesus as the true spiritual leader of God's people, in contrast to false teachers who lack divine authorization.
