John 1:11

King James Bible

"He came unto his own, and his own received him not."

Commentary

John describes Jesus arriving among the Jewish people—his own by covenant, heritage, and promise. Despite being their long-awaited Messiah, Jesus faced rejection from the very people prepared through centuries of prophecy to recognize him. This tragic irony introduces a central theme of John's Gospel: the contrast between those who reject and those who believe.
