Job 3:26

King James Bible

"I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came."

Commentary

Job uses three negations to emphasize his complete lack of peace—no physical security, no emotional rest, and no mental tranquility. This triple denial reflects the Hebrew poetic style of intensification, showing Job's life was already marked by vigilance and unease even before his major calamities. Despite Job's careful, anxious living, catastrophe struck anyway. The Hebrew word for 'trouble' (rogez) suggests violent agitation or turmoil, underscoring that his worst fears materialized regardless of his precautions.
