King James Bible
"And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering."
Lebanon's forests were renowned in the ancient world for their vast cedars and abundant wood. Isaiah declares that even if all these legendary forests were used as fuel for an altar fire, they would still be inadequate to honor God's infinite majesty. The countless animals in Lebanon's wilderness could not provide enough sacrifices to match God's worth. This hyperbole emphasizes the futility of trying to offer God anything proportionate to His greatness, pointing to His transcendence beyond all human religious efforts.
