Genesis 4:26

King James Bible

"And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD."

Commentary

Following Cain's murderous line and Abel's death, Seth represents humanity's fresh start through Adam's third son. The name Enos means 'mortal' or 'frail man,' suggesting growing awareness of human weakness and mortality in the early generations. This marks a pivotal moment when humanity initiates corporate worship and public invocation of Yahweh's name. The timing with Enos's birth implies that recognizing human frailty led to seeking divine relationship, establishing organized religion in contrast to Cain's line which built cities and culture without God.
