Galatians 5:6

King James Bible

"For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love."

Commentary

Paul declares that in Christ, the Jewish identity marker of circumcision holds no salvific advantage, nor does Gentile uncircumcision create disadvantage. This radical statement dismantles the Judaizers' insistence that Gentile converts must follow Jewish law, emphasizing that union with Christ transcends ethnic and religious boundaries. The only thing that matters is faith actively expressing itself through love—not mere intellectual assent but trust in Christ that naturally produces loving actions. This phrase encapsulates Paul's gospel: salvation comes through faith alone, yet genuine faith inevitably manifests in love toward God and neighbor.
