Galatians 5:3

King James Bible

"For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law."

Commentary

Paul solemnly warns the Galatians who are considering circumcision as necessary for salvation. The phrase 'testify again' indicates Paul has addressed this issue before, emphasizing the gravity of choosing circumcision as a religious requirement rather than trusting in Christ alone. Accepting circumcision for justification means obligating oneself to perfect obedience to all 613 commandments of the Mosaic Law. Paul argues that one cannot selectively follow the law—choosing this path rejects grace and demands complete legal righteousness, which no one can achieve.
