Galatians 3:14

King James Bible

"That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

Commentary

Paul connects Christ's redemptive work to God's covenant promise that Abraham would bless all nations (Genesis 12:3). This phrase emphasizes the universal scope of salvation, extending beyond ethnic Israel to include all peoples. Christ serves as the sole mediator through whom the Abrahamic blessing flows. His death and resurrection fulfill the covenant requirements, making him the channel through which Gentiles access God's promises. The blessing culminates in receiving the Holy Spirit, the down payment of our inheritance. Paul emphasizes faith rather than law-keeping as the means of reception, reinforcing his argument against Judaizers who demanded Gentile circumcision.
