King James Bible
"For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor."
Paul refers to reconstructing the law-based system of justification he had dismantled through preaching salvation by faith alone. Having proclaimed that righteousness comes through Christ rather than law-keeping, returning to law-observance would contradict his gospel message. By rebuilding the law's authority, Paul would prove himself guilty of violating the very law he seeks to restore, since no one can perfectly keep it. This paradox demonstrates that returning to law-based righteousness actually produces guilt rather than justification.
