King James Bible
"And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:"
Moses responds to Jethro's question about why he alone judges the people from morning to evening. This exchange occurs during Jethro's visit to the Israelite camp after the exodus, where he observes Moses' overwhelming workload. Moses explains that the Israelites actively seek him out as their intermediary and judge. His unique position as God's appointed leader naturally drew all disputes and questions to him personally. The people's ultimate purpose wasn't merely seeking human judgment but divine guidance through Moses. In the ancient Near East, leaders often served as oracles, and Moses' direct communication with God made him the sole channel for understanding God's will in legal and spiritual matters.
