Deuteronomy 1:29

King James Bible

"Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them."

Commentary

Moses recalls his direct address to the Israelites at a critical moment when they faced the prospect of entering Canaan. This phrase establishes Moses as the mediator between God and the people, speaking with prophetic authority during their wilderness journey. Moses commands the Israelites to reject both terror and fear regarding the Canaanite nations. This double prohibition emphasizes complete trust in God's promise to give them the land, countering the people's panic after hearing the spies' report of giants and fortified cities.
