Daniel 2:17

King James Bible

"Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:"

Commentary

After receiving Nebuchadnezzar's impossible demand to reveal and interpret his dream, Daniel retreats to his private quarters. This movement from the royal court to his home signals a shift from public crisis to seeking divine intervention in a familiar space. Daniel immediately shares the dire situation with his three Hebrew companions, known by their Babylonian names as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Their Hebrew names here emphasize their shared faith and identity as exiles who worship the God of Israel. This designation highlights their close bond as fellow captives who had been trained together in Babylonian wisdom. Their companionship represents a small community of faith within a hostile foreign environment, preparing for corporate prayer in the following verse.
