Daniel 2:16

King James Bible

"Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation."

Commentary

Daniel boldly approaches King Nebuchadnezzar directly, demonstrating remarkable courage given that the king had just ordered the execution of all wise men. This action follows Daniel's discovery of the death decree and shows his initiative to intervene personally rather than flee or hide. Daniel requests a deadline extension, essentially asking the volatile king to delay the executions. This bold request reveals Daniel's confidence that God will provide the revelation, as he has not yet received the dream's content or interpretation. Daniel commits to delivering not just the dream's content but its meaning—the very thing the other wise men claimed impossible without first hearing the dream. This promise stakes his life on God's faithfulness to reveal hidden mysteries.
