Daniel 2:10

King James Bible

"The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean."

Commentary

The wise men declare the impossibility of Nebuchadnezzar's demand—to tell both the dream and its interpretation without being told the dream first. Their admission reveals the limits of human wisdom and occult practices when confronted with divine mysteries. The Chaldeans appeal to precedent, arguing that no ruler in history has made such an unreasonable request. This defense attempts to shift blame from their inability to the king's unprecedented and impossible demand. By listing the various classes of Babylonian wise men, they emphasize that this task exceeds all human expertise. This comprehensive list underscores that even the collective wisdom of Babylon's entire intellectual elite cannot meet the king's demand.
