Daniel 12:9

King James Bible

"And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end."

Commentary

The angel dismisses Daniel from further inquiry, instructing him to continue with his life. This directive comes after Daniel's request for understanding of the visions, emphasizing that some divine mysteries are not meant for immediate comprehension. The prophecies are divinely protected and hidden from full understanding, like a scroll sealed with wax. In ancient practice, sealing documents ensured their contents remained secret until the appointed time and authorized person could open them. The full meaning of these apocalyptic visions will only become clear in the eschatological future. This temporal limitation underscores God's sovereignty over revelation and suggests that end-time events themselves will serve as the key to interpreting these prophecies.
