Daniel 12:1

King James Bible

"And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book."

Commentary

Michael, the archangel specifically assigned as Israel's heavenly protector, rises to action during the end times. The phrase 'stand up' indicates Michael assuming an active defensive posture, intervening in earthly affairs on behalf of Daniel's people during their greatest crisis. This describes an unprecedented period of tribulation surpassing all previous sufferings in human history. The superlative language emphasizes the unique severity of this eschatological distress, often interpreted as the final persecution before God's kingdom is established. Despite the unparalleled tribulation, God promises selective deliverance based on names recorded in the divine registry. The 'book' references God's record of the faithful, indicating that salvation is predetermined and assured for those belonging to Him.
