Colossians 1:13

King James Bible

"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:"

Commentary

Paul describes God's rescue operation, using military language to depict liberation from Satan's tyrannical domain. The perfect tense indicates a completed action with ongoing effects—believers have been permanently freed from darkness's enslaving authority over their lives. This depicts a complete transfer of citizenship, using a term often applied to relocating conquered peoples to new territories. The destination is Christ's present spiritual kingdom, characterized by light and love, where believers now live under the gracious rule of God's beloved Son.
